Indigenous Geographic Society (IGS)

Who We Are
The Indigenous Geographic Society (IGS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to documenting, preserving, and amplifying Indigenous stories, cultures, and knowledge systems. Rooted in Indigenous values and storytelling traditions, IGS works alongside communities to ensure that knowledge is protected, respected, and shared on Indigenous terms.

Our Mission

To document, preserve, and share Indigenous stories, languages, and cultural knowledge through film, education, and community-driven initiatives — while advancing Indigenous sovereignty and upholding the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

Our Vision

A future where Indigenous knowledge systems are protected, revitalized, and globally recognized — ensuring future generations inherit the wisdom, language, and cultural identity oftheir ancestors.

The Need

Indigenous stories, languages, and knowledge systems are at risk due to the lasting impacts of colonization, cultural displacement, and language loss. At the same time, there is a growing demand across Canada and globally for authentic, Indigenous-led education and storytelling.

There is an urgent need for:

● Indigenous-led documentation and storytelling
● Language preservation and revitalization
● Youth mentorship and skills development
● Education grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems
● Ethical, community-driven media production
